Technology

I25 modular integrated amplifier is the latest iteration of Primare’s now iconic integrated amplifiers and among the first to use our new UFPD 2 power system, a radical reworking of Primare’s award-winning UFPD all-analog Class-D technology.

Providing 100 watts at 8 ohms of absolutely linear UFPD 2 amplification across the entire audible bandwidth, I25 delivers naturally fast, clean and agile sound with an unprecedented ability to bring music to life.

The modular design of the I25 allows for a sophisticated digital to analog conversion module, DM36, as well as a Prisma network player module module, SM35, to be added to the amplifier at any time for unprecedented system customization.

I25 continues a Primare tradition of delivering astonishing performance from compact and elegant integrated amplifiers for easy installation into virtually any living environment.

An example of this is our signature control knob, known throughout the industry for both its appearance as well as how it feels in the hand as an input is selected or volume adjusted. – or as we say lagom, not too much not too little, everything in balance, proportion, and harmony.

Modular Design and System Building

We feel it is essential to offer modularity whenever possible in order to have just the right features, both now and for the future. Modular design is featured in the I25 and I35 modular integrated amplifiers, as well as the PRE35 modular preamplifier, all of which can be updated with DAC and Prisma modules, as well as the CD35 CD player that can have the Prisma module added, either at the time of purchase or at a later date. As a result, we are able to offer a carefully considered array of models and configurations in order to allow for device selection that best fits any system need. For example, a CD35 with Prisma module installed can be paired with an I35 integrated amplifier, allowing for a separation of analog and digital stages. Or, an I35 with DAC and Prisma modules installed can be paired with a DD35 CD transport, allowing for multi-room and multi-zone playback of every input, whether analog or digital source.

I25 DAC DM36: The cool clear one from the North

“The immense warmth of sound that the Primare can exude when reproducing voices, for example, is certainly due to the audiophile overall tuning. There is no trace of digital coolness or whatever prejudices there may be against Class D amplifiers… There may be integrated amplifiers in this price range that can provide even more brilliance in the highs, even more bass pressure or even more crystalline analytics. But when it comes to the homogeneity of the reproduction, no competition can beat the Swede.

CONCLUSION: With the Pirmare I25, music lovers get a powerful and sophisticated integrated amplifier. The I25 DAC is the hot top tip for anyone who wants to upgrade older digital sources and also wants to enjoy high-bit streaming to the fullest. Price/performance: outstanding!”

Primare have received an Innovation award from HiFi+ with the following citation:

“First founded in 1985 by industrial designer Bo Christensen, Primare’s is perhaps one of the most recognisably Scandinavian brands in audio. Its combination of minimalism and good performance all point to a Swedish brand.

So, when Primare uses a Swedish word to describe its ethos, perhaps we shouldn’t be too surprised. That word is ‘Lagom’ (pronounced ‘laah-goam’) and roughly translates to ‘just the right amount.’ In Primare’s world this means keeping everything in balance, harmony and proportion, and that the music – rather than the technology or the box in which it comes – should be the focus of audio.

To this end, Primare employs a very modular approach to its product design, such as its latest Ultra Fast Power Device module (used throughout the range), which shows what Class D can do in the hands of very competent design engineers.“

“The sound is clear, it is solid and dynamic, it has a bit of an analytical tendency and, above all, it does not impose any particular character on the whole. But it is not a tense technical performance, it remains impartial and close to the theoretical audiophile ideal. A big bonus is the possibility to expand its capabilities with a solid D/A converter module and/or the Prisma module, which will provide the comfort of the world of streaming and modern control. Overall, the Primare I25 is a frequency-balanced and tonal-neutral amplifier, well processed and very orderly – at least on paper, it is very close to the theoretical hi-fi ideal.”
