Opera Callas Loudspeaker
“The Callas didn’t flinch or wilt under pressure.” - John E. Johnson, Jr., Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity
Reference-Level Sound from a Standmount Speaker
The Opera Callas is a premium two-way standmount speaker designed to deliver the scale, dynamics, and bass authority normally associated with a floorstanding design.
A custom 7-inch SEAS midwoofer and Scan-Speak 9700 tweeter produce natural vocals, smooth detail, and controlled bass reaching down to 40 Hz. Its adjustable midrange output also allows the speaker’s presentation to be tailored to the room and listener.
Handcrafted in Italy and available in lacquered Walnut or Mahogany, the Callas combines reference-level engineering with traditional Italian cabinetmaking.

Full-Scale Performance
The Callas uses a relatively large 14-liter enclosure and long-throw midwoofer to produce deeper bass and greater dynamic range than a typical bookshelf speaker.
Its presentation is full-bodied and spacious, with the weight needed for rock, jazz, orchestral, and electronic music. The Callas can also play at high listening levels without losing its composure or tonal balance.
Custom SEAS and Scan-Speak Drivers
The 7-inch midwoofer is built by SEAS to Opera’s specifications. Its annealed polypropylene cone combines natural tonal character with the rigidity and excursion needed for controlled bass and dynamic impact.
High frequencies are handled by the Scan-Speak 9700, a highly regarded 1-inch soft-dome tweeter chosen for its smooth response, wide operating range, and low distortion.
A crossover point near 2,000 Hz allows the drivers to integrate into a cohesive presentation with clear vocals, refined treble, and strong image focus.

Adjustable Midrange Voicing
A rear-mounted switch increases output by approximately 2 dB between 300 and 3,000 Hz.
This allows the vocal range to be adjusted for room acoustics, speaker placement, recordings, or personal preference. The standard setting provides a more neutral balance, while the elevated setting brings vocals and lead instruments slightly forward.
Expansive Three-Dimensional Imaging
The Callas is designed to create a focused and stable soundstage that extends beyond the physical boundaries of the speakers.
Careful toe-in can be used to adjust image depth and focus. Its compact proportions and controlled dispersion also make the Callas suitable for closer listening distances and near-field systems.
Built for Low Coloration
The cabinet combines thick MDF with curved veneered plywood panels. Wall thickness ranges from 25 mm along the sides to 50 mm at the front baffle.
Nonparallel internal surfaces and strategically placed acoustic foam reduce standing waves and reflections behind the driver. This helps preserve midrange transparency, articulate bass, and precise imaging.
Premium Crossover Design
The woofer and tweeter use separate second-order crossover sections, allowing the Callas to support bi-amplification.
Mundorf capacitors, MOX resistors, and OFC copper inductors are used to preserve clarity and maintain accurate integration between the drivers.
Flexible Amplifier Matching
With 89 dB sensitivity, the Callas can deliver impressive dynamics without requiring extremely high amplifier power.
Opera recommends amplification starting at 10 watts. Because the Callas has a 4-ohm nominal impedance and a minimum near 3 ohms, the best results will come from a stable, high-quality solid-state or tube amplifier.
Italian Craftsmanship
The Callas features curved cabinet walls, a substantial sculpted front baffle, and furniture-grade lacquered finishes.
Walnut and Mahogany options give the speaker a timeless appearance that reflects Opera’s combination of traditional Italian woodworking and modern acoustic engineering.
Optional Opera Speaker Stands
The Callas can be placed on a shelf, but a rigid speaker stand will provide better imaging, bass definition, and listening height.
Opera’s matching stands are compatible with the Callas and are available separately.
